More Construction!

I have been horrible about taking pictures! This next week I promise to take a 32 week (yes, 32 weeks!) photo and get it posted.

Since our last update on the nursery Rusty has put in a lot of hard work. The first thing on his list was putting together the furniture. Before drilling he broke the man code and read the directions!

Luckily the furniture wasn't too hard to put together. We were able to get the crib and dresser together in just an hour our two!

Once the furniture was put together I was able to lay out some of the fun decorative items that we have collected. There is even a shot of his coming home outfit!

In the next few weeks, once the bedding and drapes come in I will get some final pictures of completed nursery. It is hard to believe we are starting to countdown but we are so excited for what is to come in 2012. Happy New Year!

Busy Bee

Well maybe one busy bee. I have officially been put on sofa duty while Rusty has been doing some heavy lifting. I like to think that I can still work like I used to but Rusty has kindly reminded me that I am almost 7 months pregnant and am not allowed to do manual labor!

There have been several things on our nursery to do list. The first step was cleaning everything out! We finally got the bed out which now lives at my mom and dad's house. We were also able to clean out the closet. We had to practically play Tetris with all of the boxes in our remaining closets but we have finally gotten everything organized. On the note of closets, Rusty has done a great job starting our closet "renovation."

He started by building a second hanging row on the left long side of the wall. It still needs a coat of paint but otherwise it is all set. This will allow us to have to full rows of hanging on the left side with storage in the back right hand corner. I already had a great Elfa unit that just needed some upgraded drawers. I ended up choosing a bigger drawer for toys at the bottom and then a few smaller drawers for things like socks and hats! We are also thinking about installing a few shelves above the drawer unit for books etc.

The next part of our nursery decorating list was choosing a paint color. Unfortunately, Rusty went out of town when I was given the job to choose a shade of blue. My original 2 choices grew to 6 by the time he got back!

Luckily, he and some of our houseguests all agreed on the same color. I was pretty happy because all of the shades were starting to run together!

Today our family painter, Tony, came to paint the room. I was so excited to see the final product and couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!

Now that the room has been painted we can start assembling our furniture. We already have our crib and dresser just waiting to be put together. By the time those pieces are assembled it will be time to pick up our glider and ottoman. I can't wait to see everything put together!

The most important part of the decor should arrive in early January...our bedding! I also ordered a few extra yards of fabric so I can sew my drapes. Until then Rusty and I will just be setting up the basics and enjoying our busy holiday season.

I will try to take a breather this weekend to get a week 28 picture!

6 Months!

We have made it to 6 months and I finally have a real belly!

Since our last post we have had another doctor's visit. Everything continues to move right on track without a hitch. The next doctor's visit is next Monday. Unfortunately, this will be for my glucose tolerance test (aka testing for gestational diabetes). If that doesn't go well it could spell some bad news for the holidays! Luckily I haven't had any cravings or other food issues but if I am told I can't have something I am sure I would want it more! Basically I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes out normal. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving....and Gig 'Em Aggies!

Halfway There!

We have officially reached 20 weeks! It is pretty surreal to the both of us how the last 20 weeks have flown by and how often it doesn't even seem real. I have a little bit of a belly but not too much going on:

In celebration of our 20 week mark, and the fact that this was the ONLY free weekend we have until January 14th, Rusty and I went ahead and worked on our registry. We drove out to a huge Babies R' Us in Memorial City to do the majority of our "shopping." I had made a nice long list of all of the things I had been told to register for. I highly recommend a little preparation before dragging your husband in a baby superstore! I armed Rusty with the scanner, which of course he loved, and we got started. About 2 hours later we had worked through almost everything on my list.

After a well deserved lunch at Freebirds, we headed to Target to start a registry there. Even though I despise Target's return policy I decided I really wanted to have a second option for folks. Since the Babies R' Us near us closed, it is somewhat of a pain to get shower gifts if there isn't a second store to shop at. Luckily, having already done the bulk of decision making registering at Target was a breeze.

Once we got home and rested for a little bit we started cleaning out the soon to be nursery. Seeing as we are not going to have much time at home this fall I really wanted to get a jump on cleaning everything out. As no surprise to many of y'all I already have a pretty strong "nesting" instinct. I have found bedding that I love and am now working on getting all of the other decor together. I am trying not to worry too much about the final product, but that is easier said than done. Luckily, I have Rusty to bring me back to Earth and remind me that we still have 20 weeks :)

The next update will be after my 24 week appointment in November. If we do anything major to the nursery, of course we will post that too!

The Big Appointment!

This morning Rusty and I arrived at our doctor's office bright and early. The first appointment was our anatomy scan and then we were scheduled to meet with my doc. Valerie, our ultrasound tech, walked us back to her cozy ultrasound room. With all of the reading I have been doing to prepare, I had come across some advice to have a nice full bladder for an optimal scan. I am very glad I double checked this advice with Valerie. Luckily she told us it wouldn't make any difference because the way our scan went I would have been running to the bathroom in the first few minutes!!!

Once we got settled Valerie walked us through everything we were seeing. It was amazing to see how much our little one had gone from a little bean with toothpick arms to what actually looked like a miniature baby! Here is one of our ultrasound pictures, a nice profile!

Turns out our little one was quite a mover and a shaker. I think it got my dance skills :) After a lot of pushing around to check the organs, vessels and bones, Valerie got down to business! Of course we were dying to know the sex of the baby. After a little more pushing around she got a great picture...

It's A Boy!!!! We could not be more excited about the news. We were both really hoping for a boy first and we are both so thankful to be blessed with a baby boy first!

At the end of our scan the tech started taking "4D" pictures. Thankfully she warned us that they were not going to be very pretty. At this stage the baby is more or less a skeleton with skin, not very cute without any fat. We figured we would at least post one of the pictures, our favorite, our little one just relaxing!

After our scan we had a chance to spread the good news to our parents and they were so thrilled to hear the news. When we made it in to see our doctor we got the green light that everything looked great on the scan.

Now the fun begins with picking a name, a nursery design and shopping :) Our next appointment will be around 21 weeks in early November. Unless anything happens between now and then we will be sure to update the blog!

16 Weeks....a little late

I apologize for waiting to post this! I have been one busy lady. Week 15 was spent coordinating my friend Laura's wedding. This Saturday, the mark of week 17, was spent in Las Vegas dancing my preggo rear end off for one of my college best friend's bachelorette party. I was a total champ hanging out with those wild girls in Vegas. I wouldn't have missed it for the world! In between my busy weekends I squeezed in a quick week 16 picture.

I have certainly gotten a little bigger. I even broke down and bought some maternity clothes. I haven't had much of a chance to wear them but I am sure I will need to start transitioning into them soon.

My next appointment is October 5th, just after week 18. This will be our big anatomy ultrasound...assuming our little one cooperates. If not our next big picture will be November 2nd. As soon as we hear anything we will post it here. So check back after October 5th for all the big news!

14 Week Appointment

Rusty and I had our 14 week appointment this last Wednesday. It was great! This was actually the first time I met with my actual ob/gyn since we found out we were pregnant. My first appointment was handled by another fabulous doctor in the practice. It was really great to see my doc. She gave us a huge hug and was so excited for us. She also had some exciting news to share. My doctor is also pregnant! Turns out she is due in January. This means she won't be able to handle our delivery in March. I really wasn't too bummed because the doctor who handled my initial appointment would like to take over my care towards the end of the pregnancy. He is a wonderful doctor and very hard to get into so I was pretty excited that he accepted me as a new patient.

After we got all of the "business" out of the way we were able to see how the baby was doing. Well we didn't actually get to "see" the baby this time. For some reason we didn't have and ultrasound this visit but our doctor used the doppler to check the heartbeat. Once she found it we couldn't believe how loud and strong it was. I think the most fun part was seeing the HUGE grin on Rusty's face when he heard it. Our doctor said the heartbeat sounded very strong and healthy at 165 beats per minute!

The next appointment we have is in early October around 19 weeks. This will be our big anatomy visit! Other than a belly pic at 16 weeks the sex of the baby will be our next big post! Until then, have a great September!

12 Weeks!

Nothing too exciting has happened this last week. We did start to tell some of our close friends this weekend. It was great to hear all of the excitement and support they have for us on the big journey!

I also finally made time for my first belly picture! Not much to show but I am sure it won't be long!

Our next update will be after our next appointment on the 31st. Until then we will just be working and hopefully not staying too busy!

What's New?

Welcome to the Chiles' Family Blog! We are hoping to use this to keep anybody who is interested updated on our lives.

The biggest news so far? We're expecting! Rusty and I found out a couple months ago that we are pregnant with our first child! So far the baby is due March 3rd, 2012. This means I am about 11 weeks along today. Thus far all of my scans and tests have come back perfectly normal. My next doctor's appointment will be around 14 weeks. Hopefully at that point I will have a much bigger ultra sound picture to share.

As far as how we have been doing....we have been absolutely thrilled! It is a little surreal at this point considering I am not showing and have hardly had any of the typical pregnancy symptoms. One thing that has been fun has been all of our traveling to share the news.

We started with my mom and dad. We had already planned on spending the weekend with them in their "mobile mansion" in Bryan. I didn't think I could wait much longer to tell them so I convinced Rusty to let us spill the beans as soon as we got there. We had our secret camouflaged as an "anniversary present." Once we got settled in the RV we gave mom the present. She opened it and pulled out a onesie that said "I Love My Tini." She looked at it, looked at us, back at the onesie and then said "are y'all pregnant?" Of course I squealed yes and everybody started screaming! We pulled out dad's onesie and he loved it too! It was so much fun finally sharing the news!

Telling Rusty's parent's, Kevin and Kelly, was a little bit trickier. We were planning on heading to San Antonio to float the Comal River with our friends Will and Lauren. Instead of heading straight there, we planned a detour to Laredo for a surprise visit. If we had just shown up one night they would have known something was up. Instead, we got their best friends and neighbors, Rhonda and Richard involved. Everything was perfectly planned and ready to go. Unfortunately the night before we were to be in Laredo Kevin was asked to take a trip to Sugarland for work. Somehow we were able to convince him to make it back home because Rusty had a "property to survey" in Laredo. They bit hook, line and sinker! We were able to have a great "Wine Down Wednesday" dinner with their neighbors and neither of them knew anything was going on. After we finished our appetizers, Rusty brought the onesies to the table. He looked at his parents and said "Mom and Dad, I lied to you guys. I am not here for business. We are actually here to share some news." Rusty handed them their onesies and all hell broke loose! There was screaming, crying, a little more screaming and hugging. It was so fun to see the looks on their faces and we are eternally grateful for the Rhonda and Richard helping us spill the beans!

Now that both sets of parents know the big news, we wanted to share it with you all! In an effort to keep this a secret at my office, please try to not post anything on Facebook. We are very excited to let our friends and family know, but I need to wait for a couple months before the news is shared at work. Thanks for your cooperation! Please check back often for more updates on how everything is going in the Chiles' house!
